Consumerism is bad – doing without is good? If only it were that simple. While most of us condemn the current economic system and demand sustainability, it’s still insanely difficult to sacrifice. The temptation to simply consume and forget all the problems and worries associated with is overwhelming: not surprising, given that our economic system is based on unlimited consumption.
And so, the only thing we are left with is our moral compass and the question: Why is it so difficult to do what is proven to be right? Is a “good“ life even possible in a system that aims to tempt and manipulate the individual?
The Glittest is a mixed-media project by Rebecca Zahor.
It deals with consumerism, its beautiful illusions, and the constant overstimulation. After all, glitter is considered to be the most beautiful thing in the world but even the beautiful appearance cannot hide the fact that glitter is not only unnecessary but also contributes to environmental pollution in the form of microplastics.
The vibrant Y2K branding features motion graphics, social media, a Bravo-style magazine, and merchandise such as stickers and a pin.
